I'm just wondering what the general feeling is amongst the figure modelling fraternity about using synthetic hair for tails and manes of larger scale (120mm) horses.
Having looked at what the "horsey" modellers do with the Breyer type models, I am very impressed.
Before I start carving off the mane from a fairly expensive kit I would be interested to hear if anybody else has had any success using this method.

I've just returned to the hobby, after a 20 year absence. I used to use theatrical crepe hair on all my Napoleonic 54mm figures. My next figure will be a 75mm RE Lee figure with his horse Traveller and am intending to resurrect this technique from 30 years ago. It does not have to be reserved for larger figures.

As I remember, Shep Paine also used this method on a few occasions.
