yesterday was the 595 anniversary of the battle of Grunwald/Tannenberg when the Polish-Lithuanian-Bielarussian army utterly defeated the Teutonic Order/western knights army. And today, about 1700 knights (reenactors) gatherred at the battlefied to reenact the very battle (and probably still fighting :) ), the largest gathering since 1992 when the knights from all Europe started to come and 'fight' the battle again on its anniversary. The festival follows and then plenty of the reenactors go on to the Malbork fortress to reeanact the siege that had followed this battle. Thousands of spectators view this event every year :).
this Polish website has photos going back to 1999, perhaps some sourcereferences for interested planeteers here :)
