Here's my latest project. It is George Washington, based on a statue in Boston. This is a one piece
casting, so it provided a few more challenges in the painting process. I do not know who sculpted this,
but the horse is really nice. All done in acrylics, and printers ink for the metals. Thanks for looking,
    and comments are welcome.

I really like the different tones of buff that you've achieved.
As for the horse, it's one of the best greys I've ever seen.

What size is it Rod? High quality so it must be a hobby rather than tourist piece. When you said one piece casting I thought toy or tourist. Great paint.

Thanks Andrew, John and Colin for the comments. It looks like it could be 90mm. I think it was purchased from a shop in Mt Vernon. It is a resin casting, and I had to soften the rough edges a little. I was really impressed
with the horse, and that for me it made the piece. It was a lot of fun to do. Glad you like him.

Great work, the horse IS a cracker but you haven't let it dominate the piece.

I REALLY admire this as a piece.

    Awesome piece, Rod!
Love what you did with the uniform!
Very nice painting balance between horse and rider! Groundwork is great too!

Beyond the horse, it's not a bad portrait of Washington either- nicely painted Rod.

If you don't mind me asking, what's your recipe for the buffs you used ?

    Thanks

Thanks PeeDee, Zeno, and Brian for your comments, and kind words. Brian, I used a couple of mixes on the buff color depending on if it was the cuffs, and lapels, or his breaches. For the uniform I used Vallejo buff + Andrea wood for the
base coat. For the shadows more wood color + Vallejo Burnt Umber. Deep shadows straight Burnt Umber. Highlights I used straight Buff, and the top highlights Buff + Vallejo White. On the breaches I wanted to use different ochre colors.
I used Vallejo Yellow Ochre + Vallejo Gold Brown + small amounts of Burnt Umber for the base, and more Burnt Umber for the shadows. Yellow Ochre + White for the highlights. This is the way I went about it this time. I might used different
combinations depending on the effect I'm after. Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

    Rod

Thanks, Rod - appreciate the help; it gives me a starting point!
(P.S. Apologies for mis-spelling your name in my earlier post - red face!)

    Brian,
No problem about the spelling. It started with an "R", so you are in the clear. The color mixes are just a guide, and there are many other color combinations you can use to get what you are looking for.
    Thanks again for asking.

    Best Regards,

    Rod
