A Fixture
To the best of my knowledge, US contractors made the French M2 and British PH, large box respirators and small box respirators for the respective armies. Individual US infantry battalions trained with either the French and British armies using whichever gas mask the trainers used. In the field, they eventually standardized on the British small box respirator manufactured by US industry.
In the last photo, you see a post war group of US soldiers wearing both the field gas masks and some experimental types.
