Angelo has sent me photos of his finished French Ranger, 1750. A 54mm La Meridiana Miniatures figure.

That's nicely done on a very beautiful figure. I also own this figure, and this work is surely an inspiration.

The figure sculpt is very nice. A French ranger? Hmmmmm. I thought the figure was a marine. The colors are definitely wrong (ducking slings and arrows). ~Gary

You're right, Gary... and wrong

A general misconception is to translate 'Compagnie Franche de la Marine ' by 'French marine'.

In fact they were foot soldiers raised by the French Ministry of the Navy (Ministère de la Marine) which at that time was charged with the administration of the colonies (Canada, Guyane,...).

If my memory serves me well, their uniform should be light/medium blue.

On the other hand, this is a very fine figure and Angel has done it full justice. (y)

Nice job on the French Marine figure. I too think this figure line worth checking into in the future.

Quang, I fully understand that they were NOT marines in the tradional sense and their main duties entailed operating in, out , and around the forts/posts of New France/colonies.

I was merely being my usual nit picky self in terms of the title and coloring of the figure.~Gary
