Hey Lou, Thanks buddy, I was inspired to paint this figure after seeing your beautiful rendition.
As you know, I'm not much of a photographer , do you have any suggestions for the background?

    Ciao

    Roc :)

    Hi Roc

Try a grey background. Something that won't shift the colors around much.
For fun, try a yellow background and see what happens!! ;)

There's a shade of grey that is used in photography. It's a Munsell grey sheet that is supposed to provide a color neutral background. I forget the exact number of course... It's an 18% grey. At the Eastman museum they sell cups and t-shirts that shade of grey...

White may add too much contrast, but again, should be color neutral, assuming you are using white light (which is rarely the case).

Andy, where can I buy this Munsell gray paper?

    Hi Roc

Well, the University book store here sells it. Try some place that specializes in photographic supplies. They'll have an 18% grey.

You could just buy medium to light grey card stock.

You can see the approximate shade here:

    and here's some grey card:

I just did a search, I've never dealt with that shop.

    Hello Rocco,

Please help me out of the following problem
I'am study your model for a few weeks now, (how you do the painting) but now i saw something different.
In the painting at the start of your SBS the longcoat is grey or a greyish blue.
You painted in royal blue. Why??
Is this the artistic freedom, or is it another colour for this regiment.

    Hope you can explain.

Hey Marc, I added a touch of Windsor blue to my gray mixture, I purpously wanted to give the long coat a bit of a blue tint, as to make the color more pleasing to the eye.

I painted the the ruffles on the cuirasse royal blue, because that was a very popular color at the time among nobles.

Oke, now i sleep better. ;)
Still beutifull painting. And indeed, a blue is better for the eye. And the blue turning into a blueish- grey after some time.

(of the record. I see Rocco, you are early up in the morning).

Take my word on this one. In this case, the figure won't fit in a crockpot!

    Roc,

I thought you dried your figure's in the oven. Was the temperature so hight that he is melt down.
You once wrote that you do the figure's one night in the oven at 60 degree Celcius.
So the night is gone, where are the pic's. ;)

HEY Mark, been very busy at work, I have not had a chance yet, hopefully this weekend.
Work really sucks and interferes with the hobby. :(

    Thanks for your patience.
    Cheers

    Roc :)
