Are the colours of the the coat (habit) on light Infantry the same dark blue of the Line infantry?
It's confusing when looking at the uniform plates showing different shades of blue, I know the blue fades but what colour to start with.
I use Dark Prussian blue for line infantry as a basis.

Cheers folks

At that time there were no international colours classification like RAL ( or Pantone or ... MIL ) today
All was in the hands of the dyers, in their interpretation of dark blue, night blue , indigo, Imperial Blue almost black, ( and their skills ) ,and the colours faded away under the coordination of rain and sun

Think it was supposed to be the same in theory Bob, but as has just been said it could be whatever you fancy, up to a point, due to fading and weather effects even if the dyes were standardised

I'd go with the same colour personally mate.
Cheers
Paul

ps - Rousellot mentions that the light Infantry uniforms 'became very whimsical on campaign with each soldier deciding upon his own attire often supplemented by non regulation garments' (Gives you a fair amount of freedom!)
