Great start, Roger. I think this is the first flat I see in this big scale. The 10th regiment, is nice, red facings with yellow inner lace.
Let´s see how you paint the straw white of the uniform.

Thank you Eduardo. I'm thinking White + Naples Yellow for the uniform.

I would made it, the same way for the base color, you can add a bit of black or brown for the shadows, taking care of not going to a excesive yellow tone, because the correct tone is more creamish.
Those uniforms were made of white wool, but the weathering turned them to a light-straw tone, and finally, that color was adopted as characteristic for the uniforms.

Anyway, I always take Mentzel as reference for the colors, because he copied from the originals of the museums to paint his plates.

I also have the Dorn and Engelmann books, mine are the German versions but I still wouldn't be without them.

How about adding raw umber to the white?... then you get the warm brown tinged with yellow.

Cheers Colin, I'll make a note of that. I'm going to try some experimental mixes before going for it.

Great project, Roger, another one right up my (and your) alley! This is the figure that Conny uses for his avatar over at the HZ-Forum, too.

I enjoy seeing your progress, look forward to more!

    Prost!

Cheers Brad. I have a copy of Conny's version for inspiration/guidance. If mine turns out half as good as his I'll be happy.

I've tinkered a bit with the face and working on getting a nice smooth coat of Lamp Black on the hat and boots before shading and highlighting them.

Lonely is one thing, it's the desperate ones you need to watch. I'd better post some painting before this gets out of hand... again. :D
