WIP of this new subject, depicting François I. Darquier, chef de battailon of the Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard. I started painting the face and the bonnet a poil with oil paint on acrylic base.

Some historical notes of the character:
Baron François Isidore Darquier was an eighteenth and nineteenth century French military who served during the wars of the Revolution and the Empire. Member of the Legion of Honor, entering in the Grenadier Guards on foot of the Imperial Guard, the 10 germinal Year XIII, became battalion commander and participated in the campaigns of Austria (1805), in Prussia and Poland (1807), and gets 14 March 1806 decoration of Officer of the Legion of Honor. At the Battle of Eylau,Darquier was under the command of General Dorsenne and commander of the battalion of the Grenadiers of the Imperial Guard walk was commissioned by the emperor to advance with bayonet against a column of 5-6,000 Russian. Darquier was appointed Colonel Major on February 5, 1809, and responsible for the organization and command of the 1st Regiment of Grenadiers-conscripts, who later became the third skirmish-young grenadiers Guard, underlining gloriously in the battle of Wagram. He receives 15 March 1810 the title of Baron of the Empire. Posted in Spain next April 30, 1810, Darquier died in 1812.

    Lasalle,

To be honest, I thought you would have had a lot more comments, Napoleonics is meant to be top for figure painters.
I wish you well painting this one.

I really appreciate the connection of the history of the subject with the figure. It really brings history into a more exact and human focus in my view. Somewhat akin to focusing a microscope I would say. Well done.

By the way, the good Baron appears to have died in Spain in 1812 (not Russia as I assumed) from a chest inflammation (une fluxion de poitrine) if my French translation is correct. In researching Baron DARQUIER on line I ran across an excellent and detailed with trivia Premier Empire website: www.grenadierlabeille.blogspot.com. Check it out.
