This is my first attempt at "black" skin tones. If anybody has any hints or tips, they'd be greatly appreciated. Planet Figure 050.jpg

Looks great....and there as many African (American) skin tones as there are Cuacasian....don't beat your self up over it. If you come up with Halle Berry cafe au lait or Wesley Snipes purpley dark, it's all correct.
There is no right and wrong here, as long as it's not actual black.
    Nice job...well done.

Well Whitney, I think your on the right track. I'm not sure by the photos exactly where you are quite yet, as the flesh tones look warm against the warmer colors and they look too "ashy" (gray and dry skin) against the cooler purple background. I would err on the side of keeping the browns to the warmer side personally. Remember that even dark complected skin will "tan" in heavy sun, and this guy should be seeing plenty of sun, so browns tending towards warmer tones would be most appropriate. Keep it up and let us know how it turns out!

Looks great! Jay's right tho', the different backgrounds are altering the look of the skintones and in the last pic he looks positively demonic!

    Cheers,

    Glen
