    Hi

After all this time being a member of PF I thought I should show some of my own work.

Until recently I specialised in using enamels and oils on 120mm scale figures. I am pleased to show you my first WIP on the Scale75 figure. Captain Amelia Steam. The only bit I am not happy with is the striped trousers, which I will redo. I really enjoyed doing the NMM bits in acrylics on the rocket backpack, weapon and the base from the new Scale75 range of paint sets.

Seems to be a good start, but the pic is coming up small. Go at least actual size and work up from there.

I've done a closer picture for Glen of my WIP. I definitely need to work on the striped trousers to get the lines straight. She also needs some lipstick!

Nice work! Maybe use some thin strips of Tamiya masking tape for painting of the stripes? lay down 3 stripes, remove the middle one and paint in between. Just a thought...

Thanks Gary, I'll give that a try.

Although I haven't used it yet, I purchased a parallel cutter from Micromark. I bought it specifically for this use. You can always use a ruler and cut strips, but you run the risk of inconsistant strips. This avoids that. simply put your tape down on a piece of glass, set the desired width and cut as many strips as you want.

What an interesting gadget Gary. I will seriously think about getting a parallel cutter. I think it would come in very handy.

I wonder if any other figure painters use this kind of thing? If not, how do they paint straight and even lines on clothing?
    Anyone?

    Hi Gary

I've tried the masking tape method, but I'm not happy with it. The problem is the lines I am trying to create on the figure are not straight or even as they have to follow the contours of the body and the cut/hang of the cloth. The following real life photo illustrates the problem. I also attach a picture of my first attempt to use masking tape on the Amelia Steam figure.

Not sure what to do about that. I'm not in the textiles business, but I imagine pants are cut from bolts of cloth where the stripes are the same width. I still think you would be o.k. by painting your base coat, cutting uniform strips from masking tape, applything them one at a time, and then removing every other strip so you can paint in between. I'd seriously use an airbrush painting perpendicular so you don't get too thick paint stripes. I'm not an expert by any means. This is just my thoughts. I'm sure others have a better system.
