In my further attempts at spamming the vBench area today here is my second entry. I painted this piece at the begining of last year but have just now gotten around to taking some decent pics! This bust is a bit of a mystery. It was given to me by my good buddy John Lea. I'm not sure the origins of it (sculptor, manufacturer) but I know I just loved this piece when I saw it!!!!! John did some work on it himself and had already modified it by removing/grinding off whatever was below the point you see now. I just love what he did with it. I thought the swoop of the cape was just fantastic! It has that great stare of intent and a simplicity that just appealed to me. I did have to make one change myself as well. I added the bat on his belt buckle with sheet styrene I cut out and glued in place. It seemed such a focal area, and the original bust just had a plain empty space there. After several attempts at painting it with nothing there, I thought it could use more visual interest. It scales out to about 300mm/1/5 scale or so. All painted in oils. I made the sign on the plinth myself on the computer. I gave him "comic book" style all white eyes. I think it enhanses the simplicity of this piece. Hope you like it, any and all comments welcome. Gotta go, that's the Bat Signal!!!!!.............

Excellent Jay, I have a Batman bust also and have gone back and forth on how I should paint the eyes- white or real. May go with white now.

Very nice Jay. I think the eyes work for this type of figure. I like the truncated figure, it's cut off just right. I like your treatment of the black cowl too, specifically how you've created the blue under-tones.

    Jay,

Lovely work mate. Black is easily the hardest colour to paint and blend and you've done a magnificent job achieving subtle transitions.

Superb paintwork on this batman figure Jay!
With all these dark colors it could be very monotone piece, but you did an excellent job to let the figure pop out.

    Regards,
    Marcel.
