As the 10 year project to photograph all paintings in British public ownership comes to an end I thought it might be interesting to see what each of our favourite military related painting is.
For me it's Turners wonderful 'The Fighting Temeraire'

If you take part remember there's at least one artist out there who'd have you in the Tanty having your fingernails pulled out ;)

This has got to be the most difficult question ever asked on PF, for me anyway, I'm still thinking.

Know what you mean Roger. I've got loads of 'favourites' but apart from loving Turners work I settled on The Fighting Temeraire because it's so evocative of an old fighter passing on without being overt....it's the back story that facinates

Just put it down to the weird and often obscure British sense of humour Martin we can find hours of amusement in the toilet ;) something the rest of the world views as a normal mundane item. There was no offence meant I assure you

After much deliberation I'm going to choose "A Refusal of Terms." by Ernest Crofts. Besides it being a really well painted picture, very atmospheric, cold, wet and muddy, it leaves me wondering what is going to happen. Will the garrison sit it out and perhaps be relieved or...... ? I'm sure a novel could be written around it. I'm afraid I can't attach a picture because I'm still at sea but an image search will bring it up or if someone could do it for me it would be appreciated. Roger.
