    Hi everyone,
I've finally finished my El Cid Bust.
For those familiar with the history behind this piece, you'll notice that I did end up changing the color of the head scarf. I just couldn't get the original turquoise color to look right.
    Anyway, here it is...

I'd appreciate hearing any comments and especially connstructive criticisms of it.
    Thanks,
    Craig

Beautiful work there Craig. I really love the neat painting. I particularly like the inside of the mouth. Very realistic.

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the kind comments. Much appreciated.
I too like the green on the scarf. I feel the vibrancy of it helps it to look like silk. But I don't like it as much as I did the turquoise color from before. I was really disappointed that I couldn't get it to work.
Only thing now is that I think the blue on the face piece may not look good with the green/yellow combination.
But it's done for the trip to Atlanta next week so that's where it stays for now
    Thanks again,
    Craig

    Hello Craig,

You don't have to feel sorry that the turquoise didn't work. I think you delivered here a fantastic job! The green fits just right in with the other colours. Great face too, especially the open mouth showing the not so neat theeth as a result of the contemporary lack of any dental care.

    Super!

    Johan ;)

    Hi guys,
First, thanks for posting your thoughts here. I was surprised to see new comments today :)
    John,
Yes, it's a resin piece. It was made by Ft. Duquesne Miniatures and is now OOP.
Here's how I painted the chain mail:
Over a grey primer I painted the entire chain mail area with Mars Black and allowed this to dry. Then I mixed up a dark gunmetal color using Mars Black and silver printers ink. I brushed this on to the chain mail, being careful not to completely cover the black under painting down deep in the mail. After this dried, i mixed up a lighter version of the gunmetal color and lightly brushed this on to the top most points of the mail. After this dried, I made a wash of Brown Madder Alizirin and applied this to all of the mail.
By the way, all of this was done with oil paints.
    I hope that helps.
    Craig
PS: I didn't know that you hung out here as well as on ArmoramA :)
