WIP Drummer 44th Rgt. 1812

    Dear Planteteers,
I just started this lovely bust by Pegaso: a young drummer boy of the 44th Rgt, 1812. In my opinion, painting a young face is harder than painting an older face - the transitions have to be super smooth.
The quality of the pictures is poor - my apologies.
As always, I am thankful for your suggestions and advice.

    Thanks for watching, happy Eastern!

Hi Sven not a lot of advice that I can offer you as your painting is always spot on the only thing is that if you are going for parade ground setting then the clean youthful wee face will work but try not to make it too cute (careful with the prominence of the freckles) and if you are going for an on the march or even after battle appearance then dirty him up with a bit if subtle weathering.

Nice job. You definitely captured the look and feel of a youthful complexion.

Superb face. Difficult to paint the faces of the very young and women.

Love it. The wear on the shako looks spot on. I don’t think I could paint a face so convincingly so am a bit reluctant to say that I’d be inclined to soften the edges of the eyebrows, so they look a bit less stuck on.

Thank you, Jeff. I think you are right. Fixing the eyesbrows will be fun compared to painting all his stripes...

I am always afraid to do the weathering. I always fear to ruin the figure. Thank you for your comment.

Nice work Sven. I agree with previous comments - kids, women,(and dogs) - the three challenges to paint realistically.
