Have mercy on my poor, battered wallet, Gordon ! You, Adam, Moz & Carl keep creating all these "must haves". Marvellous, this new one, and no mistake (y)

Ever thought about getting the guys to do a certain Revolutionary gun team from Detaille's triptych "Le Chant du Depart" ? Y'know the one I mean ?........yes, mate, ...that one!

    Cheers,

Cracking print Alan. Oddly enough a sculptor recently sent it to me with a view to producing it. Might have problems getting the cannon but worth looking at as a future project.

Love this one, I think small vignettes are the way to go.

But Taff/Alan I see this is the second time you've asked this, but sorry, even after extensive Googling I still don't know the one you mean.

Could you enlighten me please (a link would be great).

Thanks Gordon, yes, that would be something to behold :)

What's the triptych? Strange, but even with a name and a title I still can't find the full thing.

Neil, it's from a triple panel painting "Le Chant du Depart", showing Revolutionary troops led by Winged Victory,by Edouard Detaille, originally destined for the Pantheon in Paris, but superseded by "Vers la Gloire " . The triptych was framed and hung in the Detaille gallery in the Musee de l'Armee until WW1. It is now, I have discovered, been rolled and stored in their vaults at Les Invalides, and there are no plans for it being displayed in the near future. It is, to be fair, quite large being 3 metres tall and some 11 metres in length. Black and white pictures of it appear on page 28 of the Copernic book "Edouard Detaille; l'heroisme d'un siecle " published in 1979 (now sadly long out of print). If you have a look on Pinterest, it does appear there. Sorry can't be of more help.

    Alan
