This is the story with this guy so far.
His face ws initially done in oils but It wasn't too good. So I tried sprayed some Dullcoat on it then filtered acrylics over it which seems to have saved him a wee bit.

Tell you what Grant if this was to 'correct' a finish you weren't satisfied with it's worked brilliantly.

Very nice effects with the clothing and face!

Lovely bit of work Grant, like the fading you have managed, clothing looks very "real".
So glad you "saved" him! I am sure I would have been happy with the unsaved version.

Face looks good. Seems that you have overdone the dark browns.....looks like burnt umber/Brown Madder Alizarin.

I wanted him to look weather beaten. I believe the Crusaders spent many months travelling in the deserts Middle East where it gets rather hot...and there was no Ambre Solaire back then I don't think.
    Helm and housecarl like this.

Totally flattened them Ron. Also gives enough grip for the acrylic washes to hold onto.
