I’m just throwing this question out there, but I’d like to know if confederate kepi’s had badges on top of the hat,I’ve just completed a confederate bust which has a badge on top of the kepi,I’ve been challenged about this on another social media site by someone telling me confederate kepi’s didn’t have badges on them,I’m a little confused, could anyone throw any light on the subject please ?

From what I've heard and read, badges were much more scarce in the Confederate army than the Union. Supplies were very unreliable, and kepis weren't preferred by southern soldiers, who favoured civilian brimmed hats.
Probably more common at the start of the civil war, though. And it doesn't sound like they weren't worn at all.

There's always one isn't there?! :D

I think Kev's post puts the question nicely to bed.

Lovely work as well mate by the way.
