While surfing the net I came across a painting by civil war artist David Wright which inspired this vignette of confederate general Patrick Cleburne leading his division at the battle of Franklin 1864 at which he was killed
The figure of Cleburne was scratchbuilt with a Michael Roberts horse, the five infantry figures are commercial castings either straight from the box or with minor conversions.

Fantastic work Peter. David Wright is one of my favorite artist. I have several of his Mountain Man paintings in my den.

    Peter,

You did a fantastic job on this vignette. Maybe you can do something to reduce the shining colours. Specially the red on the figure in the middle ask for to much attention.
Can you share more picture's. It is so well done.

    Peter,

I admired your adaptation of Cleburn at Franklin with great interest: I have business clients in Franklin and was just there two days ago visiting the battlefield!

I saw this painting there (a print) and am truly amazed at how well you have brought it to life. FYI, if you are ever in the South, you must see the Cyclorama of the Battle of Atlanta exhibited at a theatre next to the Atlanta Zoo. Simpy breathtaking.

    Cheers,

Thanks for your kind comments Kyle.
Perhaps unusually for a Brit I have always been fascinated by the ACW. Virtually all the figures I have done in recent times have been from that conflict.
I took a vacation in Georgia and South Carolina a couple of years ago and visited the cyclerama in Atlanta I agree with you they've done a fanastic job in renovating and presenting the painting

Yes, the ACW is a fascinating, heart-breaking time in our history. Many American families today still talk about how one great-great grandfather fought for the Union while the other fought for the Confederacy. In my own family, my great-great uncle was a pall-bearer at Lincoln's funeral. When my father was a boy in the early 30s (he was born in 1925) in Southern California, they used to have Civil War Day, and the old soldiers would come in their uniforms. In say 1932, these guys would have been in their 80s and 90s. The Union men would sit on one side of the stage, and the Confederat men on the other. Quite startling to thing my father shook hands with Civil War vets....

    Cheers!

    Kyle
