Little Historical note:
The particulars of this figure are taken from a table of Osprey Warrior N° 30 “Celtic Warrior” illustrated by Wayne Reynolds, is a Celtic Nobleman to the time of the campaigns of Caesar in Gaul. Its high social status is clearly visible by the quality of his clothing and equipment, tunic in precious silk and mantle of fine wool, armature and helmet of a model found in excavations to Alesia, another characteristic element of his social status are the long moustasches.
The Warrior is armed with sword of excellent form and lance that beyond excellent effectiveness in battle, also represents the symbol of free man, for the defence is fitted with great shield, in this case of an oval shape (other form was hexagonal) built with axes of oak wood covered with leather and reinforced with umbone and edges of iron, shields were often decorated with geometric patterns or as in our case with stylized drawings of animals.
Obviously the appear lends itself to many paintings interpretations, for example the mantle or pants could be achieved by those who want undertake a little more binding painting as tartan or stripes.
