    Hi Guys,

this is the result of a recent conversation with the son of a convoy veteran.

Sculpted in Miliput and Pro Create, there is still much to do, including cap badge, duffel coat hood, binoculars, toggles, refining, etc. I will add a plinth, in time, when I get round to it!

I hope you like it, so far!

    Love it!

It will be interesting when you sculpt the duffel coat hood, I think it will be a defining element of the sculpt. Great start - will follow this project with interest.

Nice piece Steve, My dad served in the Atlantic during WW11, but he didn't look this grizzled:)

Rich - I hope I can do it justice - I am basing it on film stills from The Cruel Sea, et al, to get the duffel coat right!
Rob - many thanks, perhaps I've overdone the grizzle?!

    Hi guys,

many thanks for the kind comments, so far! Here are some more (not very good!!) pics. Apologies for the lurid sepia colour, its the crappy low energy bulbs we have in the kitchen!

As you will see, he has sprouted arms so that he can hold a tin mug of cocoa and his trusty pipe. The actual plinth will have a little more height to it, that was the first one I came to in the garage! Still much to do, hope you like it so far!

When you do the cap badge, remember to sculpt a King's crown, not a Queen's crown.

I'm looking forward to this becoming commercially available, and to a full length figure in a reasonable (120mm?) scale.

Mike, many thanks for the detail pic, it'll be really useful when I get to the cap.
Maybe someone could advise me of the type of gloves that he may wear - I thought possibly fur lined leather, or knitted? (or mittens?) WD issue or personal choice?

    cheers guys,

    Hi Steve,
Here are a few photo's mate(y) , there are a couple of different varieties looking at the photo's knitted, fur gloves and mittens on show. I bet a lot of naval crew officers included, obtained fur gloves and Ushanka's whilst in Russia.
    cheers

    Hi guys
here are some (hopefully) better pics of the progress so far. More details added, cap badge, seams, toggles, press studs, etc. Still a way to go with binoculars to be made, handle added to mug, bas-relief added to plinth, seams added to sheepskin gloves, etc, along with some final tidying, but I hope you get the picture?! Forgot to say that this is 1/10 scale, approx.

    Thanks for staying with it!
