    Hi Kev!

I have the slight suspicion that the ribbons of the medals are made by him self to carry them like orders. This is also indicated by the unusual fastening with silk loops on the ribbons.

The medals were awarded without ribbons, as you can see here...:

I did not find a photo with ribbons, with the exception of the middle medal, and I have searched carefully ...

So I would paint them all blue.

And before I forget: Here is the cap - first an old one...

...and here a modern reproduction from the US Coastguard Museum ...

    Martin

Cheers again ....blue sounds a logical choice for the ribbons in relation to the sea he served on .

Thanks for the other pictures as well .....

Think I had best get medal sculpting ...interesting to see there are tiny ribbon bows on the medals as well

    Hi Guys

This is heading to my bench going to change a few things ..well move a few buttons a bit to allow the medals to sit closer to where they are in picture .

Also might add a belt and buckle

Also found a larger picture of the gold medal and pics of Coast guard member and buckle ....all very similar to Mr James uniform and period

    Hi Guys

    Thanks for comments

Borek ...indeed great reference from Martin ..as always ...a fountain of knowledge

Bob....don't worry Jim is being thanked ..I am letting him give me biscuits on a paint day soon ...might let him wine and dine me as well ...am I not too kind ....

Your right he has done a good job ...clever little sausage that he is ...but don't tell him I said so !

Will be hopefully doing the medals ( shape only ..details when hard ) etc later , have added the basic belt so that wil be done as well ( also been reworking Elan13's Deaths Head Hussar but more about that in a later V bench )

    Happy modelling
