    Hi All,

Hope you can help me with clarifying a detail of a figure I'm working on.
It's about this one, a British WW2 para at Arnhem from Mitches:

    Made after this picture:

An attractive figure, but despite the large scale the stengun unfortunately is a bit sketchy and lacks a sling.

To upgrade these areas a bit I'm looking for info on these things:

    - how the sling attaches to the weapon

    - and what is happening at his left hand, the one holding the magazine....is the hand holding part of the sling, a glove, ....or something else?

Here's a zoom of the area:

Hope some of you more knowledgeable on this matter can help with this....thanks!

    Cheers

Google Mk5 Sten, there's lots of pics of the attachment points for the sling - Not sure about his hand, but looks like a leather glove to me.....(y)

Thanks Steve. Sten Mk5 helps....was confused about all the version I encountered while googling.

Looks like he wrapped the sling around the magazine.

    Cheers

For sling mountings I’d use google as previously suggested.

Look at all those equipped with sten guns - all have slings around their left hands or magazines in different ways. I’d say the centre paratrooper has his sling wrapped around his magazine.

The muzle of a firing machine gun has the tendancy to go up looking for the sky.
Wrapping the sling give a better control to keep it down

The same when firing an antitank grenade with a gun, you have to wrapp the sling around your fore arm and behind the elbow to insure a good and stable leveling . Here you don't fire straight but in curve (like a mortar )

    Thanks guys. Really helpful stuff.
The picture clears it all Richie, thanks.
Good to know about the rationale of wrapping the sling as well.

    Case closed I suppose!
    On with the figure....

    Cheers,
