As you may remember, I've been working on a series of horses and riders of various nations. All in 1/16th scale, using a combination of parts from various kits, scratchbuilt lances, and scratchbuilt saddles and other horse equipment as well as personal field gear for the rider appropriate to that combatant. Some of the scratchbuilt equipment has been cast for me by Bob Stein, to whom I owe a big thanks!

Why cavalry and especially lancers? World War 1 was filled with anachronisms including weapons like lances. Imagine a lancer charging a dug-in machine gun...not me brother.

Several of the horse and rider combinations are being painted now by three Spanish painters - all members of PF. The Australian Light horse mounted infantryman and horse was completed first and posted on Planetfigure a few months back. As I'm sure you remember, it was painted beautifully by Eduardo Garcia Lope. The French Dragoon lancer has been finished and is on his way back across the Atlantic, having been painted by Luis Garcia Ibanez. Can't wait to be able to post photos for your review. A French Spahi is now being painted by Rafael Gonzalez Aguayo and I've just posted the Russian Don Cossack Lancer of the 4th Regiment to Eduardo. I've still got (completed) a Bavarian, an Ottoman Turk and a Belgian lancer to be painted.

The British lancer of the 12th is the last of the series. I'm ready for a change from horses and riders!

    Hope you like this one!

    All the best,
    Dan

Another great achievement of Dan, a pity that this is not a future trade figure.
I will buy the entire series.

Zastrow and Huw - Many thanks fellas! I thoroughly enjoyed making them. Interesting the numbers of problems I encountered - the right pose, how slightly different figure heights and girths combine to cause problems seating the figure, maintaining the rearing horse and reinforcing the back legs, etc.

As to them being commercial, Zastrow, I have no interest in converting any of them to a commercial figure. If somebody doesn't do a commercial version of the Light Horseman pouring water into his hat to share with his horse, I would say they'd be missing a good bet.

A commercial figure of the little guy saluting would probably also be a good one. Just guessing - what do I know about such things?

All of them will eventually be painted and available for purchase. I don't plan on keeping any of them. I'm hoping to have three or four of them for the MMSI show in Chicago in October and maybe all of them painted by Spring 2016.

My wife and I are just beginning to plan a European trip next summer. What's the biggest figure show in Europe?

    All the best,
    Dan

Cheers Roger! That's a thought! After completion, maybe I should re-post all of them together.
