Hey guys, it's been a while since my last update, due to the fact that I've been too damn lazy to do anything, anyway got around to finishing the boots today, also tweaked the eyes a little because they looked a bit too feminine.

An absolutely beautiful job Leigh. It looks like you used wire for the laces and grommets. Care to elaborate?

    Thanks John!
I made the eyelets by winding the wire around another wire, bit like a spring, then cut them off, drilled holes roughly where the eyelets were spaced, filled the holes with putty then placed the eyelet and pushed the wire for the laces into the wet putty. After it was dry I just folded them over, cut em off and flattened em a little to avoid that raised look.
Here's a pic of the eyelets.

    Incredible work! Really looks superb!

    Were the boots carved?

    Hey Thanks Rob!

I'm not sure I'm a good carver nor sculpter of wet putty so I use a bit of both.
I roughed in the shape while the putty was soft then cleaned up the shape (actually boots are trickier than they look) after the putty's hard. For the overlapping joins in the leather I added thin beads of putty to these areas and brushed them out, then sharpened up the edges afterwards.
If you add too much putty to these areas they become too bulky and ruin the overall shape.

    Thanks Jason!
Yep hobnails, so I can use them for future projects where the soles are seen.

Ken and Anders, Thanks for your encouragement.
Thanks Calvin, I started with the intention of it being a commercial piece but haven't bothered to seek out a manufacturer, I'd rather finish it first then see if anyone is interested. I'll try to start dressing him soon :)

Leigh, Those boots are just amazing my friend. You are one truly gifted artist. I have the utmost respect for your attention to detail. Your work has really inspired me to work even harder on my own stuff. The face is great.~Gary (y)

Gary and bob, Thanks! Gary, the beautiful thing about this site is the inspiration I get from viewing the work of so many other very talented modellers, yourself included.
