BLOOD BANK

Discussion in 'Completed Figures' started by BULL, Sep 28, 2022.

  1. BULL A Fixture

American Red Cross Blood Services began during World War II. England was facing possible invasion and officials realized massive quantities of blood would be needed for both the military and civilians. The U.S. Armed Forces asked the Red Cross to create and operate a national blood donor program to collect blood for shipment to the British Isles. To assist in this effort, the first bloodmobile visited the Farmingdale, New York Red Cross Chapter on March 10, 1941.

For this figure I started with one of the new Tamiya 1/35 sets of US tank figures. These are excellent new generation plastic figures, derived from 3D scans of real people posing. The clothing is absolutely perfect, with lots of small folds, just like in reality.
I replaced the head with one from the Hornet, to which I added photoengraved accessories from the Royal Model range. The plasma cans are from Plusmodels; the one that holds the figure I have replaced the handles with others reproduced with very fine electric wire, to allow a more realistic grip.
the sign was reproduced in plasticard, inspired by a real photo, and painted entirely by hand, as well as the writing "BLOOD BANK" reproduced on the helmet.
