While waiting for things to dry on my sniper project i made a start on this 200mm bust by Debra Raymond Miniatures (sculpt by DF Grieve) of a Black Watch Major 1903-14. Base coated in acrylics from andrea, but would like to know from you all, do the eyes need more work? I dont think that they look lively enough.

Look good to me Barrie, might benefit from a brighter catchlight.

Perhaps a thin coat of gloss varnish would make them more "lively" but they look pretty good as they are. Maybe leave them for now and look again after you've done some more work on the face.

    Hello Barrie
I think the eyes are fine, quite plausible, but always trying, I think the white of the eye needs some shading around the pupil.
Do not understand the photograph, is finished with the face?

Rob, you can still get some of The older DF Grieve figs on here, http://www.militaryfigures.co.uk/

Alexandros, sorry for confusion, the bust is just at the early stages and i will be using oils on the face.

I didn't realise it had been so long since i last posted anything on this. Been doing some more to this. The face is oils over acrylics, the rest is so far acrylics with the gold braid and the collar being printers inks.

Looking great, I must get this back in the mould as out of stock now.

Debra sold the figure side ie masters to me in 2012 so the website listed above is only now military souvenirs, why they kept the title of figures I have no idea

All the figures are now under www.cgsmilitaryfigures.co.uk

I look forward to seeing more and especially your new Black Watch :)
    Best wishes

    Hi Barrie
This particular bust is one of my favourit that David did before he stopped sculpting. Like your rendition of this classic piece.
