    Land navigation, scouting, indirect artillery fire planning...you do a lot with a good map, some binocs and a compass.

    Most of the time, Amen! Particularly keep maps or even electronic GPS eqpt away from hospital administrators and similar. I won't bore you with 1980s NATO exercise war stories.

    I learned when I was briefly in the Scouts. No...honestly.
