Is it a hussar? Little dark but I like how the horse turned out. Does your style of painting change dependant upon the size of the flat? I have a couple large pirate flats that I'd like to try.

Thank you Jay & Hendryk. I can't understand why my photo's nearly always look dark to everyone else but me, maybe it's my eyes. :D

Jay, it's this chap, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gabriel_Bethlen I don't think the painting style changes too much, just remember to exaggerate the highlights and shadows more with flats.

    Roger.

Flats scare me even more than busts. Hats off to anyone who can paint them at all let alone this size

Give one a go Steve, you might be pleasantly surprised. :D

Just a thought, does the background look dark or just the figure?

Very nice start. Why not making his pants and boots darker. The color is fading into the color of the horse.
    But, it isn't finished yet.
