WIP Bavarian Officer 3rd Regiment Chevauleger 1812

    Dear Planeteers,

I have reached a major step of my new project: a Bavarian officer of the 3rd Regiment Chevauleger "Kronprinz". Head and helmet (a "Kasket") are done - more or less.

It's a lovely simple bust by Legion Miniatures (1/9 scale). The casting is flawless.

I am by no means an expert in Bavarian uniforms of the 19th century. After some research, however, I added a neck guard to the helmet and the metal trim to the visor.

Let me know, what you think.
    Regards from Berlin

    Sven

Nice start Sven. Great detail on the face on what looks to be a super piece from Legion Miniatures.

Marc, Santi, Neal, and Jeff - thank you so much.

Nap, thank you too for your kind comment. Shame on me, but I missed your (excellent) review.
With regard to the neck guard, I shall refer to Osprey - Men at Arms 106 - Napoleon's German Allies (4) - Bavaria.
I would not be surprised if they used both types - with and without the rear addition.
There are some more great pictures on the net of a surviving later model helmet with a pronounced rear addition.
The black leather is painted with a mix of black and yellow tone (all Andrea acrylics).
The fur center piece is painted black and brown, and the feather white with a variety of washes (dust, grey, and blue).

    Happy bench time.
