Very nice figure Andy. Would it be possible to see the back of the figure once you've finished painting it?

This figure looks great Andy. The only thing missing are his leather and metal identity disks around his neck

I'm reading an account of the Kokoda campaign by Paul Ham at the moment. Judging by the generally good state of the uniform, and the US issued gaiters, this figure represents a member of the 2nd AIF, deployed to New Guinea to reinforce the Australian and Papuan militia forces in September/ October 1942.

There are numerous accounts of soldiers' uniforms literally rotting off their backs in just two weeks of entering the New Guinea jungle, and many soldiers preferring to walk in bare feet than in boots, which offered no grip in the mud and fell apart after weeks of constant soaking.

Indeed when the AIF arrived in New Guinea they were still wearing the sun bleached khaki uniforms they'd worn in North Africa and stood out like dog's balls against the deep green tropical jungle vegetation.

It's difficult to imagine a more exhausting environment on earth in which any soldiers have had to fight a war.
