The timeless game of leather on willow........cricket!

Every 2 years, England play Australia over 5 games each lasting 5 days, for the ashes, a small urn of burnt stumps from a game played many years ago.

Australia regularly kick our butts at it......but in the final game we finally won them back! first tme since 1987

I was in australia when we lost in 94/95; hard being a pomme in Aus when we get beat.

seemed like most of the country was following the game - there's even a victory parade in Trafalgar Square tomorrow! It's that big!

It's an English thing; And Australia were magnificent too! A game played with a great spirit!

And to get this back on topic - I have plans for some Bill Horan baseball style cricketers to sculpt; Warne, Freddie Flintoff...........think it came up in another thread once and I've discussed this with other pFers offline!

    watch this space........

Jim, I'm guessing cricket; which is the most alien game to me, though it looks like fun (and before our friends in the UK make assumptions, I'll watch soccer (football) over American football any day) .

It was a great game. England deserved to win it. I have even managed to get the wife to like the game, though she doesn't really understand it.

Only thing I know about cricket is from that scene in the movie "Hope and Glory,"
when Pops teaches his son how to pitch (bowl?) a "googley(?)" (akin to a split-finger fast-ball, I guess) before he goes off to do battle with the Hun. Great flick.
