    Hi All,
Well, I have finally managed to get all the figures finished and undercoated for diorama number 3.
There are now 12 Polish Para's in the woods. With the addition of undergrowth, bushes and fox hole cover
it will help to disguise the figures some more from the enemy. I will now concentrate on the ground and then the trees.

I target is to get this finished before the show at Easingwold in June and hopefully start another diorama.
    cheers

Yeah that will be great, it already has a dark feel to it, once the trees and groundwork are all.painted it will have great atmosphere.

Looking good Richie. The Poles are an often overlooked part of the battle of Arnhem, having been dropped to late, on the wrong side of the river, and to few. And despite the hopeless situation in Oosterbeek, the already lost Bridge at Arnhem, and a lack of boats to get across, they still attempted to join the Brits.

If I may, I would leave out the para with the PIAT. 1st, the Poles didn't face a German armoured attack in Driel, and 2nd, it would create a bit of space between the figures in that corner. It looks a little bit crowded, especially as the main danger was artillery from the North of the river (Westerbouwing Heights), they would have had a fair bit of separation. I do appreciate that there has to be a bit of perspective and artistic licence, but with his PIAT aimed and ready, he looks a little out of place.

I like the wounded Para being dragged back. Is that the old Verlinden duo?
And thanks... now I have to checkout those Dutch Houses, and my wallet won't speak to me again.....

    Hi Henk,
I totally appreciate your comments and if I had the space these would have been dispersed on a larger base. The reason I have used all of these is figures as previous mentioned is the scaling issues, I had to combined these figures together in order to make a scene.
Yes those two are the old Verlinden figures, there are 6 Verlinden and 6 Wee Friends figures some of which have been altered by me to fit the scene.

You won't be dissapointed if you go to Dio Dump.

    Hi Nap,
Thank you, the groundwork is the make or break for this, but having watched a great demo on groundwork at our club meet
I'm now armed with a lot more knowledge.

    Hi All,
I'm confident I can have this finished for the show based on the previous battle scene work....so I have dropped in another couple of little projects.
I will keep adding in single figure scenes or small vignettes to break up the amount of work in some of these diorama's.

Here are first two I have started "Death comes to Onderlangs" and Daily Express war correspondent Alan Wood.
I have made the base for the first one and I have got the mannequin posed and set although not shown. I thought this was such a
powerful little piece it screamed out to be done.
I'm going to do a couple on war correspondents, these brave civilians on operations to bring us the news and images such as above.
    cheers

    Hi Richie

Brilliant idea to do the Correspondents and a good start on the figures again

The one with railings will indeed be a powerful piece for sure ....looking forward to seeing more on that as well

    Hi All,
The figures for war correspondents are finished and and a rough groundwork done. The two in the photograph are Alan Wood Daily Express typing and Sgt. Mike Lewis a cameraman for the Airborne, the photo was taken by Sgt. Dennis Smith shown in the model snapping the picture.

I have the rough Para done by the fence ready to sculpt/over sculpt

    Dead Para.jpg

When Carl sent me the twine for the previous project he also sent me a Para radio operator minus arms if I could use it.
Well I have found a real good use for him, he is going to be Canadian Stanley Maxted who recorded broadcasts for the B.B.C.
on location. Need to find a pair of arms, make a mic and I've changed the head and bought a 1/35 set of radio's and record players
as it had the perfect player in it.
    cheers

This is growing all the time and getting more and more interesting, the war correspondents are an interesting addition, although today's version are about as popular as health and safety officers!

Death comes to Onderlangs is very poignant illustrating the side of warfare most hobbyists choose not to see. A seat in the halls of Valhalla is scant compensation for ending life so young and violently, I love that you've done this.

You're going to need to build an extention to your house though just to accommodate everything!

    Cheers Simon

    Hi Simon,
Thank you, I feel it's important to reflect not only the battle but other aspects. If it was not for guy's like these we would not have all the fantastic images of Market Garden. There are some magnificent photo's in the books I have Arnhem Then And Now and very inspirational for the modeller. I have identified another 2 immediate projects one is a Medic and the Dutch Underground and there will be loads more little vignettes I suppose .
I cannot tell you how much I am enjoying this project.

Thank you for all the support(y).
