    Cheers Carl,

ANZAC Day is clearly a day of great significance to all Australians and New Zealanders, but we should not forget our Turkish mates. They also celebrate ANZAC Day and their victory at Gallipoli is one of the defining moments in the history of the modern Turkish nation.

Today marks the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Kapyong in April 1951, when the 3rd Battalion of the Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) and members of the 2nd Battalion of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (2PPCLI) and other support units of the 27th Commonwealth Brigade fought for two days against 10,000 Chinese soldiers, and won a magnificent victory against all odds that helped turn the tide of the war in Korea.

In recognition of their steadfast defence at Kapyong, the men of 3RAR were awarded the US Presidential Unit Citiation.

There weren't many of these brave fellas left alive after the Battle of Kapyong, and 60 years on there aren't many of the survivors left alive either.

Today, the forgotten soldiers who fought The Forgotten War were remembered.

    Lest We Forget.

My Respects to all soldiers, regardless of who they fought at the time; they will always be someones son, someones brothers, some ones friend.

Bravo to Tony for his comment.

Just to clarify a few points. The Battle of Kapyong was fought on 23rd/24th April and not on 25th. 3 RAR suffered 32 dead, 59 wounded and 3 men taken prisoner. The battalion was at full strength having had a refit period further down the Kapyong Valley and welcoming new reinforcements from Australia. Less than a 100 casualties from a strength of over 800 meant plenty of those brave fellas were alive at the end of the battle. The PUC was awarded to 3 RAR, 2PPCLI and Coy A 72nd Heavy Tank Battalion US Army. The ROK PUC was awarded to 16th Field Regiment Royal New Zealand Artillery. Rather than being a forgotten war, Korea is remembered in Australia by various units, notably 3 RAR at Kapyong Lines in Holsworthy, where Kapyong Day (24th April) is the highlight of the battalions year. This years event was attended by over 200 Korean war veterans and the parade reviewed by the Governor General. The Battle of Maryang San is also commemorated by the Battalion. United Nations Day, (24 October) is the official day for rememberance of the Korean War. The recently opened Korean War exhibition at the Australian War memorial is stunning, as is the Korean War Memorial on Anzac Parade (opended in 1999) a must see in Canberra. Forgotten? I think not.
Politicians getting some mileage out of it? of course
