Hi Guys,I have just finished this figure by Andrea mniatures of a Viking. It has been one of those figures that has been on my work bench off and on over the last few years,it originally came with a dog.I was not that keen on the dog so decided to not use it. Hope you like the end result.

Hello Adrian.Thank you for your feed back, glad you like him. You asked if he was in oils.I painted him in vallejo and Maimeri acrylics. The metalics were in silver and bronze inks.I was happy in the end with soft transitions in shade and highlight with the acrylics.

Hello Edward, thank you too for your positive feed back.

I would have sworn this was done in oils!
Very nice handling of the acrylics, as you've managed the 'living colours' effect that I like in oils. I particularly like the face tones, would you mind sharing your mixes?

    Cheers,
    Adrian

Hello Adrian.Thank you again for your positive feed back:) .I have been working on this technique over the last few months.I have been painting with acrylics for the last ten years or so,prior to that I used oils and enamels. My earlier technique with acrylics had a harder edge to it.Glad you like my lastest technique. The colors I used for the face were Vallejo.Beige Red 804,Yellow ochre 913,Flat Red 957,Hull Red 985 ,Extra Dark Green896 and White 951. The base color of the flesh was Beige Red with very small amounts of yellow ochre and Flat red.I also used very small amounts of Xtra Dark Green into the base flesh tone to create the five o'clock shadow. Very small amounts of Xtra Dark green were also mixed into the base tone on the foerhead and under the eyes.I used small amounts of Hull Red that I mixed into the base color, which I painted under the eye brow and under the bottom lip to give more depth.White was mixed in various amounts to the base color to create the highlights, as was Hull Red and Extra Dark Green mixed to the base color to create the darker shadows around the edge of the face and under the chin. Hope this is of some help.I am working on two other 54mm figures at the moment and using the same technique.I will try and post some different stages of the painting process.

    Regards,John:)

    Hi John,

Great to see a MedRom'er for you mate! Know you don't mind straying into earlier times if the figure takes your fancy.

Like the clean lines on this little chap especially the pattern on tunic, would have taken awhile to do this I bet. As well as the sword.

Be keen to know how you did the snow for the ground work?

You going to take this to Aussie show?

    Mike

Hi Mike, thank you for your positive feed back. Glad you like the end result. I will take the Viking to the Brisbane Model Hobby Show later this year. The main product I used for the snow was some Hudson & Allen snow, that I have had in my ground work box for years. I will post some more details on the other mixes of paint etc...

    Regards,John
