Andrea silver paint set with ink

As a beginner I picked up some Andrea paint sets to learn from. I've used the flesh, blue and red sets so far. I recently got the silver set and it includes 3 bottles of ink. Can someone tell me the uses and advantages of inks? Are they used the same way as the acrylic paint?

I've been working on some old Verlinden busts I picked up years ago and still have several Verlinden busts and figures left. They were very inexpensive when I got them so I have a bit of a stash. It looks to me that the figures have improved over the last 15 or 20 years though. I see some newer figures that I really like so I'll be picking up a couple of new kits soon. They sure have gotten expensive though. Any recommendations for a good beginner bust without too much intricate detail?
