Hi everybody ,
In my opinion the one thing that makes a bust are the the facial features so I pleased to see this from a new company to me at least namely Savage Forged Minis .
Who are Savage Forged Minis , run by Dennis Zarnowki who is a freelance Artist with a flair for sculpting they are based in Falkensee Nordwest, Brandenburg, Germany .
Title: Andre
Scale: 1/10th ..70mm high
No of pieces: 1
Material: Gray Resin
Sculptor: Dennis Zarnowski
Box Art: None Available
I purchased this bust from the website with ease , shipping was fast and efficient , the model was received in a clear bag only well packed surrounded by some bubble wrap but Dennis is sourcing better packaging in the style of flip over clear containers.
As we have only one piece t look at lets see what prep I needed to deal with before priming , the bust is held on former's linking to a chunk of resin , these are well positioned for ease of removal , there is no base provided.
There is a casting line on the review piece running all the way over the middle , going through most of the surfaces , this was removed but took a lot of careful sanding so as not to ruin the sculpted surfaces ...after that you will be able to prime .
The subject matter was inspired by a Slovakian farmer that Dennis had seen , for me it has a French look about it but whatever your thoughts you have a bust that is so fully of character , I can just see him sat at the cafe's on a french sidewalk sipping coffee although more likely wine , sharing memories with a smile and grin with lifetimes friends smoking a cigarette.
Let us look at the bust now starting with the battered cap , nice folds the cap sitting slightly back on the head , under it we see his straggly hair peeking out.
The face how ...hair as I said peeking out from under the cap nicely worked , the ears are not bad albeit a little large looking ( but we are all different) , they are worked well , the lobe on the right is slightly larger but adds a bit of interest IMO .
The hair has been nicely worked with some cracking eyebrows raised , eyes even unpainted has a sparkle and cheeky feel about them , good definition , he has a cheshire cat grin this is a area in which this bust excels , its great and so cheeky looking , facial lines abound as befitting a gentleman of this age no doubt working in the sun all his life in hard conditions ...his only pleasure ...a favourite brand of cigarettes one of which is held happily in the corner of his mouth , the mouth details are good, the skin texture is leathery looking with good neck muscle defintion ...this face is a fine piece of work
Our man wears a scruffy working top , perhaps not often seen a washing line ..but a favoured and comfortable piece of clothing for him , the collar is large and wide open at the neck revealing this details, nice folds are shown , good undercuts , button details are another good sculpt , the button straining slightly.
No base is included but not a problem if like me you will use a brass rod or even if you choose not to the way the bust has been cast ...tapered creates a nice area to work with when sorting the basing.
Final thoughts
This is a definate painters piece with a great character face to work on , lots of features and character to build on , you have to be careful when prepping but after that is done you have a lot to look forward to when working on this ...you can go as plain or go wild its an open pallette to work on ...so enjoy the freedom this release gives you .
I certainly look forward to seeing mine come to life on my bench .
