This is the figure that I'm currently sculpting.

He is going to be a british midshipman, inspired by the characters of the movie Master and Commander:

Good stance, face and presence. Not sure if I have ever seen this subject done before. Nelson's navy remains a largely untapped subject area.

A very nice and unusual piece. Not a subject that is seen too often. That's why I like it. Very clean sculpting. One question though and please forgive my lack of knowledge, but why the axe?

Thanks for the comments, Jazz! That's a good question! ;)
When I design a figure, usually imagine some enviroment. I'm representing this teenage Midshipman getting ready for hand to hand combat.
The usual weapon of a midshipman was a kind of dirk, very unimpressive weapon in that fierce combat. The crew of those vessels could choose some weapons and I have based mine in an axe from the Osprey's book "Nelson's Sailors". Quote: ..."The tomahawk, or boarding axe, resembled the weapon used by North American indians. Its curved, wedge-shaped blade made it ideal in hand-to-hand combat for, like the pike, it could be easily extracted from its victim. Moreover, when boarders experienced difficulty ascending the side of an enemy vessel, those bearing axes could drive the sharp spike on the back of the blade on to the side of the ship so as to fashion makeshift ladders. It was also useful in cutting away rigging."
I have put a pistol in his left hand. I'm working now on this arm.
This scene is -I think- illustrative of how the thing was:

Shah, it all becomes clear now. I thought it was something to do with chopping ropes. I look forward to seeing the finished piece. It looks like it will be a good one.

    Fantastic and unusual subject.
Surely will become a great sculpture.
    Diego, you will produce it?

Not my area of interest but this will definitely change that. Well done again Diego!(y) He'll be added to my must buy list.:)
