Absarokee Crow Box Art

Discussion in 'vBench (Works in Progress)' started by Bruno, Oct 5, 2006.

Bruno asked me to post the following sbs on his painting the box art for Pegaso's up-comming new release, Absarokee Crow, 1870, in 54mm.

Absarokee (Crow) Warrior, ca. 1870 Pegaso Models

Since years Luca Machetti of Pegaso had asked me to paint a box art for a Pegaso figurine. After I did the research for the Absarokee (Crow) warrior sculpted by Benoit Cauchies, I wanted to paint this figurine. The co-operation with Benoit was again excellent and he had a tremendous feeling to sculpt Indian figurines.
The figurine is 54 mm and will be released in November or December 2006

I painted the face with a thin coat of Humbrol 110. This colour works also as the base for the painting of the face with Acrylic colours.

The “white” of the eyes is painted with Vallejo Light Flesh. For the centre of the eye I used black - blue. The first highlights and shadows are added.

As basecolour for the face I use:
    50 drops Vallejo Orange Brown
    12 drops Bronzed Flesch, Citadel
    15 drops Vallejo English Uniform
    10 drops Vallejo Vermillion
    8 Tropfen Vallejo Burnt Siena

    Hello folks,

thank you very much for your comment. The photos are a little time behinde the actual painting, so I will send the next step by step to Guy this weekend.

As I exclusively paint Indians, with the time I have developed my method for faces, tanned leather ans os on and I hope this will give a little inspiration to some of you.

My special thanks to Guy Herrick who did the posting for me... Unfortunately the sentence psychologie and technic, two worlds collide is absolutly correct for me.

    Many greatings from Bavaria

    Bruno,

This is a very helpful SBS for those of us in the beginning stages (in my case, have been painting for about 15 months). It is so very helpful to read different approaches to faces, particularly with color choices when shading, and with the painting of the ever-daunting eyes

    Thanks again!

    Kyle :)

    Painting Step 2

The next step was to paint the War Shirt. The War Shirts were made of brain tanned leather and I tried to paint the war shirt of the figurine locking in that way. For this work, acrylic paint is excellent, as it is flat.

    Shadows:
    AV 785 Beige Brown
A bit of AV 960 Violet

In the next step I painted the Leggings and here I did an mistake. To get a good result for the photo for the box, I overdo the highlights of the Leggings (Photo Leggings old).

I should have remembered that on blue, less is more. So I re-paint the Leggings
