A mermaids song
Like half of the world I also saw Pirates of the Caribbean 4. One of the best scenes in the movie is the mermaid scene .
So I had the idea of bringing the mermaid to scale . This one figure had no dramatic effect . So I once used some Mark Davies drawings as a start .
The scene shows a pirate drifting in the sea after a lost battle . Holding to a barrel he is floating towards a mermaid sitting on a rock above the sea . She is singing her song and luring the pirate towards her .
‘ Once in a lifetime “ that’s what he’s thinking . But what he’s not seeing are the human skulls behind her . Oh poor stupid pirate . Your lost .
The scene is a bit gory but so are the original movie posters from Disney's POTC 4 , if you look close enough you can see skeletons and skuls around the mermaids .
Again it was necessary to build the scenery first and then the figures .
The rock is made from milliput and some natural materials .
The human skulls and the treasurebox are pre casted item from Unicorn models . A local dealer specialised in small resin parts for moddeling and dioramas. There slogan is you should only buy what you need , so they are selling these little items not by the dozens in a box but by piece .
The belt is a home made copy using instant mold . You should check this stuff out .
The figures are made from milliput and magic sculpt .
Clothings are made from green stuff (duro ) .
The heads are from the Hornet range for the pirate and from Preisser for the mermaid.
Hands are also resin parts from Hornet and Verlinden productions .
The water effects will be done with Vallejo artificial water .A water based paste :cristal clear when completely dry.
This project is the third in a series of 4 dedicated to the old school concept art of Mark Davies
This vignette is not being primed , because it will be painted by someone else. A fellow ( female ) clubmember will be checking for remaining gaps or defaults and then painting will be started . Using acrylics and oilpaints .
