    “A letter from home”
The pose for this Hungarian lieutenant comes from a Verlinden figure (I think) of a WW2 German officer. The main reference is the black and white photo of the Hungarian officer in the trench. The scale is 1/16th, the head, boots, various other pieces and the trench back drop from kits. MagicSculpt was the only putty used. The Hungarian officer has removed his brown or black leather officer’s bag or Gyulay and it is leaning on the trench side. He has a pistol in a leather holster and a pair of binoculars. He’s wearing brown leather gaiters and knee breeches. He has a large Meerschaum type pipe, a map case, a knife in a scabbard with sword knot, tan and white (I believe). One white six pointed star on each side of the collar. The uniform color should be pike grey overall with possibly different shades of grey for the blouse and trousers and cap. Hope you like it!
    All the best,
    Dan

    Hello Dan:
I want to add my positive comments to the other
Planeteers above. I've tried conversions of the older
Tamiya 1:16th figures in the past. And in my opinion
this kind of figure conversion is difficult. For one thing,
IMHO, since the scale is large, the flaws can really jump
out at the viewer. But you seem to really thrive
    in this scale!:)
I like your work regarding the converting of the
figure itself, but what I am really excited about is the
story line, the touching aspect of a harden trench warfare
soldier receiving personal contact from a loved one.
It is that somewhat "different than the soldier on attach"
figure, from what we usually see. Congratulations, . . .
I will watch your future posts regarding this presentations
with a lot of interest. The Miami Jayhawk
PS. I always admire your work a great deal.

Cheers mate! It's 1:16th or nothin' for me - old eyes. But I like the detail that you can put into the scale. Doesn't seem very popular with most folks, but it suits me.

    All the best,
    Dan

Interesting figure and great setting. The pose is good although the legs look a little stiff to me, especially the left one (I hope you don't mind me saying so). Looking forward to seeing how you progress.

    All the best,
    Elia :)

Thanks Elia and - no, of course I don't mind your comment. I was going for a very slender figure overall and maybe that contributed some how.

    All the best,

Hello Dan, Great start to your vignette. I have always loved scenes with a " letters from home " theme. Your figure reminds me of a print I have, taken from a portrait painted by Chris Collingwood. The soldier in the painting also is smoking a pipe while reading his letter. Thought I would share it with you. Best of luck with this vignette, it looks very interesting. Regards, SG:)(y)(y) dhm6072.jpg

Ken, Kenneth, Martin and SG - Thanks all and much appreciated! I'm kinda considering doing another "Letter from Home" with a US soldier set during the Mexican Expedition. What do you think?

    All the best,
    Dan
