For these two the opening comments will be exactly the same given that while the subject matter varies the actual layout is the same. Scores are out of 5
    Peter the Great Humbled
    Nicholas Dorrell
If you have any of the Osprey publications, then this book is laid out in exactly the same style and format as those. With the main part of the text preceding the colour plates and the details of the plates at the rear.

This the story of a little known (at least to me) disastrous campaign by the Russians against the Ottoman Turks. It shows how it came about, the actual campaign and the aftermath. As well as a brief overview of how it shaped the main countries destinies.

The book is quite brief again the size of an Osprey book 104 pages. it has some very nice photographic plates in colour and black and white. It also has some coloured illustrations which while nice do not come up the standard of the Osprey ones this is why it's a 3.5, not a 4

All in all this a good book for a wargamer/modeller and anybody with an interest in one of the periods more obscure campaigns
Currently on Amazon at £15.55 new

    "A RABBLE OF GENTILITY"

This book covers what were in the relatively recent past were the infamous Border Reivers in the main and their campaign. Nobody seems to have quite decided how good or bad they were, including their contemporaries.

The book is quite brief again the size of an Osprey book 112 pages. it has some very nice photographic plates in black and white. It also has some coloured illustrations which while nice do not come up the standard of the Osprey ones this is why it's a 3.5, not a 4.

All in all this a good book for a wargamer/modeller and anybody with an interest in the period
Currently on Amazon at £19.95 new
