Hello guys...I just thought you might like to see a new flat that I have sculpted.
The subject is A Shirabyoshi dancer...a lady entertainer dressed in man's clothing, acting out some heroic deed or gesture.

Here is the picture that inspired the piece...it's by one of my favourite Japanese artists, Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849).

I haven't had time to finish painting one yet...
This one was painted by a very good friend of mine from Welling model club, Phil Haynes, and I thought I'd share it with you all.

Here is my original sculpt, which is Magic-Sculp on Glass, as usual...apologies for the small picture.

    And here is Phil's paint-job....

the background was done with he's grand-childrens' water paints that were left lying about and put to good use...!!

Many thanks for taking the time to look at this, and as always any comments, criticisms or suggestions are always very welcome.

    All the best...Roy.

    Roy,

The sculpt job on this flat is superb. Congratulations.

The paint job is also great. Good job Phil.

What size is the flat? 54/90/120? And how soon will it go into production for sale?

Excellent work in both the sculpt and the painting. Actually, that's the first flat that I've ever seen in it's original sculpted form. Thanks for posting.

Hi Jay...many thanks...I can't wait to see your paint-job on the Zouave..and I hope you have a blast in Atlanta..

Thank you Guy...you know how many flats I have to do, they're gradually getting there.

Hello Ed...many thanks for your compliments...this flat is 90mm...cast in resin and available from this Monday 22nd January.
More details will appear on my website by then.

Hiya Gary thanks for checking this out...I have lots of work here but unfortunately none of it is my own.
I hope to get back on track with my own pieces by the early part of the summer.

Hey Conny thanks for looking in..and for always being full of encouragement.

Maurizio thanks for the very positive comments. The layers of the clothing are fun to sculpt although care is needed as the total thickness is only around 2mm.

Hi Brent..thanks for the comments. If you would like to see a few more flats in their original sculpted form, here are a few links to different pieces in my Vbench.

    mucha's spring

    Pantaloon

    Tamerlane

    Napoleonic mounted vignette

Hi Ulrich...thank you....I'm sure the more you experiment with flats your technique will grow.

    Hi Roy
Great sculpting job, This should be interesting to paint as Japanese prints have a flat paint style.

Stephen...Hi mate. You need to think seriously about following that desire...
I think your soft and accurate style of painting would be very suitable to working on a flat.

Hardy...you crack me up mate...Thanks for taking a look...maybe we'll be lucky enough to see a flat from you one day...now that would be something.

    Brent..it's a pleasure.

Peter..Japanese prints certainly have that quality...many thanks for your comments.

Markus..many thanks for the great comments...

Marc..Thanks for the encouraging comments...I'll pass them on to phil.

Stephen (Bluesking)..many thanks...I'm just trying to find a little time to paint one myself..I've been really looking forward to it.

Thanks again for checking this out guys...Roy.
