Sad story. Pretty big in the Dutch news as well.

Apparantly this kind of old steel has good value because of its low radiation level, having been made before nuclear testing increased atmospheric radiation levels.
Some people don't shy away from anything if money can be made.

Hope the human remains had been dissolved before this scavenging happened.

I don't think its because of the radiation levels solely as the oceans have increased levels also so the enviro's say. This is steel made from virgin iron ore before the days of recycling. I believe there are several metals that there is no good ore being pulled from the earth and everything that's out there has recycled amalgamations. Back in the 90's Chinese were coming to the US and visiting scrap yards. They would make a huge offer for everything in the scrapyard and transport it back to China. Guys were retiring overnight from the windfall. People were laughing at those crazy Chinese buying up junk over 50 years old. Whose laughing now?
