Another Future release for Drummer Boy Miniautures of a 54mm 5th New York Zouave standing and firing. Sculpted by Alberto Scorciaffico. Just got done putting him together.

That's a nice looking figure! The gun looks like it could use some time in a hot water bath. It appears to bend upwards ever so slightly.

Nice figure. My only question is 9 times out of 10 when a manufacturer does a zouave why do they do the 5th NY? Just an observation. ~Gary

Gary, I've been asking that too. My guess is the same reason for a billion SS guys, they sell ;)

    Gary,

The reason for the 5th New York is that is is probably the most well known zouave unit from the war. Which I am sure you will agree with your vast Civil War knowledge.

The main reason I got into this business is because there seamed to be a lack of figures, units, and poses on the market that I wanted to paint. That is the main reason for choosing the subjects I do for production. I also try to produce figures to be used in dioramas or vignette as opposed to "static" type figures. I have been working on a large scale 5th NY diorama (40-50 figures) in which the two I have released will come in handy for.

That being said, I do have plans on doing various other zouave units as I too have a fondness for them. I have a 146th New York zouave almost ready for release also. Are you offering to sculpt one for me?

I am not in this business to get rich (believe me!) but Matt is right, they do sell!

    Roc,

The sculptor is Jorge Scorciaffico. He sculpted the dead 5th NY zouave I have. He is working on some other figures for me which can be seen in the workbench section on my website drummerboyminiatures.com

    Thanks, Robert

    Sambaman,

There is a slight curve to the barrel. I did not notice it until after I primed him. The kit is all resin, but I am thinking of the rifle recast in white metal.

The other nice thing about 5th NY figures is that they can be painted up to be 165th NY, and I have planning a large dio of the charge of the 165th NY at Port Hudson (27 May 1863) for some time, I've just been waiting for the right figures and of course the time
