Hello Planeteers,
Today i've got 2 hussars from Trident Designs.
I will paint them in the color of the 1st Vol . Etrangeres de la Marine, who wore sky blue dolmans with yellow troussers and white lace, the well known Lauzun's Hussars orancers was the second company and they wore red troussers and yellow lace and braiding .
Both were present at Yorktown, the 1st company i am painting was part of the Marquis de St . Simon division and they just acted as a headquarter detachment along with some of the Belsunce dismounted dragoons.
Later on i will include at least one of the 2nd company but near the general.staff.
Jist for history accuracy, the Lauzun's Hussars ( 2nd company ) was with lafayette forces at gloucester point , across the York River.
Cheers

Daniel ,

This is good timing as next on the bench I am painting the great Lauzun hussar bust from Ellie's..tempted to add a lance on it !

They look great figures as well

Following with intent on being amazed ..again!

Don't forget your mixes !

Nap

PS What are those Howard Hues paints like ?

Hey Nap, of course i will post the mixes, no problem.
I am looking forward to see your stuff mate :)
As for HHues paints, the y are good, a little thick so you need to thin them down a little.
Best regards

Hello folks,
Today i have primed these horsemen, i decided to use the self etching primer for the horses and run out of it so i end up priming them with Army painter ultramarine blue.
One of the lances broke, i have tried to make it straight few times and did not make it, so i used a wood toothpick , sand it and place it on the horseman.
Cheers

Hi Daniel,

Nice start my friend good to see the colour going on , even at this stage they are full of character in the faces ........

.....any particular horse colour in mind ?

Thanks for paint details

Nap

Hi Nap, i was thinking of painting the horses in brown-reddish tone, most of the illustrations i saw the horses are in that color.
But i will make a slight variation between the 2.

Cheers

I finished the stand up collars of the tunics today, i used vallejo silver grey for the "white" lace and a combination of Andrea color Napoleonic blue and a dab of vallejo light sky blue, i think it will be ok to use that since the regulation for these chaps call it for celeste ciel ( sky blue).

Hi Daniel ,

Looking good my friend ..horse colour sounds good ...are you keeping them to the same position ?

must get some of that Valkejo silver grey ( what's the number reference ? )

Sat here looking at my base colour on the uniform of my bust ( sorry had to get that word in..lol) and think I will go for the same as you together with some Army Painter Wolf Gray

Looking forward to seeing more on these little beauties

Hi Nap, i just checked Army painter wolf grey, never seen that color before and put in on my list ;-)
I think you can use that one as base, it will give it a nice medium dark tone to build up lights and being a bust it will be a more subtle transition than the technique generally used on these little fellas.
Here's a pic of silver grey, to me it's a must for white lace and trim, generally i try to stay away from pure white for lace.
Looking forward to see that bust paint it!

Hi Daniel ,

Cheers agree about the Wolf Gray a really useful colour for the base .

That Vallejo is on my list! ..only use Pure White for my very high highlights and very sparingly!

Happy painting
