These are a couple of patterns of Roman helmets. Firstly there is the Mainz- Wisenau Neidermormter (Imperial Italic H) which I have finished plain, with a centurion's crest and with a cavalry type plume. The helmet was made from brass and iron and examples are currently displayed in a number of museums:

    Iron hemet, no plume:

    With transverse crest:

    With horsehair plume:

Secondly an auxilary cavalry A helmet based on a helmet crown found in Northwich, Cheshire, and jowl flaps found in Gloucester. The helmet is fully embossed probably to replicate curly hair. The ornamentation on the jowl flaps depict Neptune:

Further Italic and Gallic helmets, shields and weapons to follow.

The chain mail for some figures comes from ladies' purses from the 1920s, for this figure from the Dragon Timeline knights (de Kere/ Lord Arnaut).
