    In case anyone else is curious, I happened to find this thread on PF: http://www.planetfigure.com/threads/ranks-in-the-napoleonic-army.23848/

    So it would appear that five chevrons indicates a Major and six a Colonel. Ospreys' Chasseurs of the Guard by Peter Young, says eight chevrons indicate a General.
