This is a lovely little figure of a trooper, 19th Hussars 1885, who fought at the battle of Abu Kru, 19th January 1885. This was 2 days after the battle of Abu Klea.
The British formed square and moved toward the Nile, repelling all attacks. The British losses were 121, the Mahdist losses are unknown but thought to be quite high. I have restyled the moustache, making it slightly bigger and added a lower sword sling.
    All painted in acrylic.

    Hi Bob
I'm not too keen on figures that are pointing their finger as they never seem to look right to me, a bit wooden if you know what I mean, but this one has certainly cracked it, it looks great and very naturally posed, the moustache looks spot on...nice one(y)
    Cheers

Nice work Bob. Nice to have a bit of history in the introduction too. That to me is what its about...recreating history in miniature.

Thank you Ken, much appreciated. The mid to late Victorian period is a favourite with me too as well as Napoleonic. The 1850s is being better represented now in figures. Happy times.
    Best regards.

A bit more painting, the bedford cord trousers have been finished, I was going cross-eyed doing the fine dark lines but it looks okay to me. Onto the white of the belt and haversack now and of course the Martini carbine, of which I made a sling, with swivels only to find out they didn't have a sling. aghhh.

The two large pic's are of The infantry Martini, one of the GG camel corp, the other I believe is of the Staffords Regt.
The Cavalry carried the Martini carbine which had a shorter barrel length.

Martini-Henry Carbine Mark I (M-H Carbine, Cavalry Mark I) (1877-1882).jpg this had two small screws either side of the ladder sight to secure a leather strip to stop it snagging on the boot holster (below) Cav carbine.jpg They may have been issued with the latter Artillery Carbine, but I doubt it.
