    Hi guys

Latest pics are attached showing recent progress.

I've been adding highlights and shadows to the jacket, and picking out the details on the gaiters and boots. The face and eyes still need a lot of work, as he looks rather "zombie like", and I'm not happy with the flesh tones yet.

Once the highlighting and shading is finished, I will go over all the leather parts in oils to give them that polished leather sheen.

Last step will be to attached the AIF divisional colour patch and badge of rank to the shoulder.

As always, I welcome any comments/ criticisms.

    Looking good Tony!

I like the way the uniform is working out,but I will agree with you about the face.Maybe its in the sculpting as the eyes do look large, would you have to incorperate eye lashes to avoid the wide eyed look?.
its coming along nicely and look forward to more.
    Cheers Cobber.

    Hi Andy,

Mate, thanks for your comments. I've tried painting eyelashes on large scale figures before and unfortunately they make the eyes look even more "zombie like", or they end up looking like a drag queen wth a pair of fale eyelashes.

The only thing I can think of is to add a dark line along the bottom of the eyeball to reduce the size of the white area. Anyone got any suggestions, that don't involve re-sculpting the eyes.

    Hi Tony,

glad to see progress on this guy, I agree, the uniform/boots look excellent! *thumbs*
Have no idea how to improove the eyes without putty, but the bright blue colour makes them even more visible, so maybe a more subtle colour could help? Looking at the whole figure they don't seem to be so obvious though.
    Thanks for the update!

    Hi Tony,
The uniform is looking great but I agree he does
look shell shocked. You mentioned maybe adding a
dark line along the bottom of the eye but I think
perhaps one along the top under the eyelid may do
the job of reducing the stark eye look. Also Denes idea
of a more subtle overall eye colour may help.
I'm looking forward to seeing this one finished.By the
way, have you completed your Kokoda track piece?

    G'day Mark

Thanks for your comments mate. I'll try putting a line under the upper eyelid as you suggest, and see how it looks. I'll also tone down the light blue in the iris.

The Kokoda figure is painted and ready for weathering. I've put him on hold for a few weeks while I try to source a suitable base with the correct angle to give the impression he's trudging his way up the Golden Staircase. I should have the base in early March, and I've also picked up a very serious load of Paper Creative jungle plants to create my jungle foliage. Here's what he looks like at the moment, before I add mud, sweat and other touches.

    Hi Dan

Thanks mate, I appreciate your encouragement. I'm sure you'd enjoy having a go at one of these Naked Army kits yourself, particularly an ANZAC from WW1.

Such a large scale foe the WW1 Artillery man.

You mention about the start eyed looked, although it probably is appropriate for WW1, it can detract. Why don't you try moving the eyes to looking towards the left or right and perhaps adding a slight pinkish tinge to the corners, eye ducts, this should dramatically reduce the starckness and also shape the eye better, in adition it would give some animation to the face.

I agree trying to add eyelashes, is a futile task, as generally it does make the model look like a drag queen, unless of course that's the look you're aiming for.

Thanks as always for showing your work.

    Hi Tim,

Thanks for your comments and your suggestion (and also for reminding me that I still haven't finished this figure).

I have done a bit more work on the eyes, and I'll post an update soon.

Roger, that's brilliant mate, thank you.

Now I have an accurate colour guide to work from. The catchlights look particularly effective.

    I greatly appreciate your help.
